Be Prepared To Commit

Adopting a cat is fun and exciting, but it’s also a lifetime commitment. Make sure that you’re ready, willing, and able to give Fluffy the best life she can have, from the day you bring her home until the day she closes her eyes for the last time. That entails providing not just kibble and catnip, but love, attention, and, of course, proper veterinary care.

Follow Your Heart

There are millions of sweet kitties out there who need homes. How do you choose the right furball? That depends on your household. For instance, if you have a rambunctious toddler, a timid kitty may not be the best fit. People also sometimes have preferences for cats of a certain age, color, coat pattern, or personality. That’s purrfectly fine! Just spend some time with Fluffy before deciding. It’s also good to be open to the unexpected. You may think you want a kitten, but you may end up leaving with a senior cat that just melted your heart.

Get Ready In Advance

Fluffy is a pretty easy keeper. However, you will need to do a few things to make sure your home is safe for her. Removing toxic plants should be one of the first things on your agenda. You’ll also need to remove or secure chemicals, medications, wires and cords, plastic wraps, and anything small and sharp. A trip to the pet store is also in order. Your furry pal will need food, bedding, toys, treats, dishes, a carrier, and a litterbox and litter, and a good piece of kitty furniture, like a cat tower. Last but not least, schedule a veterinary appointment right away. Your furball will need a nose-to-tail exam. This is a great time to ask for cat care tips!
